Frequently Asked Questions
What is Ergoflor made from?
Ergoflor is a rigid tile manufactured in the UK from injection moulded PVC using both virgin and regulated recycled compounds.

Are there any environmental benefits to be gained?
Ergoflor is a 100% recyclable and 100% reusable product.
Ergoflor does not require removal of existing flooring and therefore minimises waste and dust, minimises use of landfills. At the end of its service life the tiles can be lifted and granulated for recycling  and  manufacturing into second  life products. Please contact us on conditions of taking back old Ergoflor  tiles.

Where can Ergoflor interlocking floor tiles be used?
The Ergoflor range has  products is suitable for almost every industrial, commercial and public flooring applications. The tiles are available in either soft or hard compounds and we also have an anti-static version suitable for use in electro-static protected areas  The choice of product is dependant on each application. Contact us for technical advice and product recommendation.

What sort of floor is suitable for Ergoflor to be laid on?
The tiles can be laid onto any hard surface including cracked or contaminated concrete, wood floors, damp floors, sub floors with no damp proof membrane.(any moisture will evaporate up through the joints). They can also be laid direct onto existing floor coverings such as ceramic floors, linoleum and vinyl. We would not normally recommend installing over carpet.

What floor preparation is required before installing Ergoflor?
Clear the work area of free standing equipment, and ensure that the floor has been swept clean of any loose debris and any high points removed. Any major cracks or holes should be filled prior to installing the tiles. Uneven floors are not a problem because the tiles will adapt themselves to the contour of the floor surface.  Please refer to our installation guidelines or contact us for technical assistance.

What tools do I need to install Ergoflor?
No specialist tools are required just a rubber mallet to secure the joints, a Stanley knife with a fixed concave blade (avoid retractable blades) for cutting the tiles, a tape measure and a straight edge. For curved or difficult cuts use an electric jig saw.

How do I install Ergoflor tiles?
Ergoflor tiles are easy to install. All you need to do is align the joint edges, clip the tiles together and finish by using a rubber mallet to secure the interlocks. Because the tiles are not glued down they can easily be altered, added to or reconfigured at any time. Remember to leave a 5mm expansion gap around the edge of the room and any fixed obstacles.  Use access ramps at entrance points to reduce trip hazards and aid vehicle movement. For a professional finish around the perimeter walls we recommend using a sit on skirting strip that is adhered to the wall but allows the tiles to expand underneath.

Do you offer an installation service?
Yes. Please contact for assistance on 0844 887 0279

Do the tiles require a sealant?
No, however the application of a floor sealer will give the floor a high gloss appearance and make cleaning a little easier.

.
Are the tiles suitable for forklift, or vehicular traffic?
Yes. Ergoflor 5mm or 7mm tiles are the ideal solution for high use floors with heavy traffic circulation such as forklift traffic.

What adhesive should be used to fix down Ergoflor?
Under normal conditions Ergoflor tiles are dry laid without the need for adhesive, however it would be necessary to bond tiles when they  are exposed to direct sunlight / higher temperatures than normal, or when forklift trucks are turning in tight circles in the same confined space. We also recommend using adhesive on entrance ramps.  The easiest methods of fixing down is to use double sided tape or a waterproof adhesive such as F.Balls F74.  Alternatively a bead of silicone could also be used on entrance ramps.

Are the tiles resistant to compression marks?
Yes. Ergoflor tiles are extremely resistant to compression marks caused by such items as car jacks, engine hoists etc. after time the tiles will return to its original form.

Can water get underneath the tiles?
The interlocking joints of Ergoflor are an extremely tight fit but they cannot be classed as waterproof, however any ingress of moisture would evaporate up through the joints.

Would there be a smell if water got under the tiles?
In the case of PVC, the polymer itself does not readily provide a source of nutrients for bacteria and fungi and so acts as a biocide against micro organisms which would otherwise make the water smell.

What is the best way to clean the tiles?
Clean tiles with a damp mop or for larger areas use a rotary scrubber drier with PVC brush and vacuum. Dilute a small amount of our  detergent (3 to 5%) into water.  For Stubborn stains (tyre marks, oil, grease.) use a stain remover. For further information refer to our maintenance sheet or contact a representative on 0844 887 0279

.
Can Ergoflor be installed in areas subject to extreme hot or cold temperatures?
Different temperatures affect PVC tiles. In cold conditions the tiles become more brittle and in hotter environments they become more  flexible and subject to expansion. Please note
where tiles are in direct exposure to sunlight  or intense heat  we recommend gluing them down. For applications in coolers or freezers down to -20ºC Ergoflor can supply a special formulation  tile which will keep the tiles flexible. Please contact us for advice on extreme condition applications.
.

What colours and finishes are available?
There are 4 surface finishes and 10 standard colours to choose from, however for orders over 200m2 any colour from the RAL colour chart can be manufactured to order. For standard colour choice refer to our colour chart
